Magic Bus Trek

I have now gone on two weekend treks with an incredible organization called Magic Bus. Magic Bus takes Mumbai city kids to the outdoors through weekly sports camps and weekend treks. I volunteer every Tuesday at a sports camp, and I have had the wonderful opportunity to get out of the city twice on the weekend treks.

On trek 1 - our goal was to climb this mountain.

I was not supposed to photograph the kids' faces, so I have lots of wonderful photos from behind, red ribbons and all.

The trek was incredibly steep.

But Magic Bus was very well prepared, with 12 staff and volunteers for 40 children. The kids in their brand new sneakers were fearless.

We hiked through rice fields.

And through villages. The kids were encouraged to pick up trash along the way, and we stopped to drink chai in a local home.

Everyone was happy and joyous to be in the wide green outdoors for the first time.

Soon we got closer to the top.

And a view from the summit!

We all danced around and ate snacks looking at the dam and village below.

After a long trek down, we returned to the famous red Magic Bus.

And took a final look at the mountain before heading back to the big crowded city.
